CH GAYLE – AN INDELIBLE PRINT IN T20 WORLD CUP
CH Gayle has left an indelible print in the T20 World Cup with his heroics. Here are a few statistical titbits of his in seven editions of the World Cup.
He became the first batsman to score a century in the World Cup. He scored 117 runs against South Africa at Johannesburg on 11 Sep 2007, which incidentally was the inaugural match in the world Cup.
West Indies could not win this game and thus his 117 has a dubious record of being a batsman’s first ever century in the World Cup in a losing cause. In fact, his knock remains the only century in a losing case as on date.
He scored one more century – 100 not out against England at Mumbai on 16.03.16 and earned the distinction of becoming the only batsman in the tournament to score centuries on two occasions.
