It also provides the fifth occasion of a West Indian bowler conceding 100 plus runs without capturing a wicket in a test innings against South Africa.

Zimbabwe conceded 42 byes against Ireland in the test at Belfast in Jul 2024 to create the world record for conceding most byes in a test innings.  The previous record for conceding most byes in a test innings was 37 conceded by England against Australia at The Oval in Aug 1934. Thus Zimbabwe rewrote the record after 90 years.

C Madande was the Zimbabwe wicket keeper who conceded 42 byes in Ireland’s first innings of 250 at Belfast in Jul 2024. C Madande was making his test debut.

LEG Ames was the England wicket keeper to concede 37 byes in Australia’s second innings score 327 of at The Oval in Aug 1934.

The previous record of conceding most byes in a test innings was 17 against India’s first innings score of 536 for 7 declared at Delhi in Mar 1993. A Flower kept wickets for Zimbabwe in this test.

A research in to this statistics revealed that there are only seven occasions of such a feat in the annals of test cricket which includes the Nottingham test between England and West Indies
