There are twelve edition of ICC Men’s ODI World Cup that have taken place. The ensuing World Cup to be held in India will be the thirteenth edition. England is the defending Champions having won the trophy in 2019.

Australia’s 417 for 6 against Afghanistan at Perth on 04 Mar 2015 is the highest team total posted in any World Cup. South Africa is the only team to post 400 plus runs in an innings on two occasions.

There are 17 occasions of a team dismissed all out for a total of less than 100 runs. Canada’s 36 all out against Sri Lanka at Paarl on 19 Feb 2003 is the lowest team total recorded in any Word Cup.

There are 16 occasions of a team winning a game by 200 plus runs margin. Of the twelve editions played so far, nine editions have witnessed a batsman scoring a century in the first game of an edition. A century was not scored in the first match of 1999 edition, 2007 edition and 2019 edition.

There are 79 occasions of a team winning a game by 100 plus runs margin which includes 16 occasions of a team winning a game by 200 plus runs margin. Australia {10}, England {11} and South Africa {11} are the three teams to win a world cup game by 100 plus runs margin on ten or more occasions. England and South Africa share the record for winning a game by 100 plus runs margin on most occasions – Eleven.

There are two occasions of a team winning a world cup game by one run margin and on both the occasions, Australia has won the game and India was the loser.

Australia-Sri Lanka match at Sydney on 08 Mar 2015 witnessed seven fifties in a match which is a record for most fifties in a match. This game is the only world cup game to witness seven fitties. Four Australian batsmen and three Sri Lankan batsmen scored fifties in this match.

G McGrath of Australia with 71 wickets to his credit owns the record for most wickets in the tournament. He is the only bowler in the tournament to capture 70 plus wickets in the tournament.

World Cup has witnessed 35 occasions of bowlers capturing four or more wickets conceding fifty plus runs. M Rahman of Bangladesh is the only bowler to capture five wickets conceding 75 runs. It was against Pakistan at Lord’s on 05 Jul 2019. He is the only bowler in the world cup to return with figures of five for 75 – a record for world cup – capturing most wickets conceding most runs.

GD McGrath of Australia captured 7 for 15 against Namibia at Potchefstroom on 27.02.2003. He owns the best bowling figures in the World Cup.

MA Starc of Australia with 27 wickets conceding 502 runs in 2019 edition owns the record for most wickets in an edition. He also holds the record for most four wicket hauls – six – in the World Cup.

Any record in cricket will be incomplete without reference to SR Tendulkar and World Cup is no exception. Let us have a look at the achievements of SR Tendulkar in World Cup

He has amassed 2258 runs in the world cup. His aggregate is not the most runs scored by a batsman but also makes him the only batsman to score 2000 plus runs in the World Cup.

He has scored 241 boundary fours in the World Cup. His 241 boundary fours not only represent the most boundary fours in the tournament but also makes him the only batsman to score 200 plus boundary fours in the tournament.

He has scored 196 boundary fours as an opening batsman which is a record for most boundary fours by an opening batsman in the tournament.

He also holds the record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup. He has scored 673 runs in 2003 edition.

He is the only batsman to score 500 plus runs in two editions. He has aggregated 523 runs in 1996 edition and 673 runs in 2003 edition.

He shares the record for most centuries in World Cup with another Indian batsman RG Sharma. Both the batsmen have scored six centuries.

He shares the record for scoring two centuries in two editions with TM Dilshan of Sri Lanka.

It also provides the 34th occasion of an Australian batsman scoring a century in a test innings against England at Lord’s.
