Nagpur Test – Third Day

R Dravid and MS Dhoni added 193 runs for the sixth wicket in this test providing the 56^th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership against New Zealand. This stand represents the fourth occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the sixth wicket against New Zealand. Other three occasions are – 123 between VL Manjerkar and RG Nadkarni at Delhi in Dec 1955, 193* between Hanumanth Singh and DN Sardesai at Mumbai {BS} in Mar 1965 and 115 between SR Tendulkar and MS Dhoni at Hamilton in Mar 2009 R Dravid and MS Dhoni added 193 runs for the sixth wicket in this test providing the 85^th three figure partnership for R Dravid.

R Dravid scored his 31^st hundred when he made 191 in this test providing the 45^th hundred by an Indian batsman against New Zealand. His hundred in this test provides his sixth hundred against New Zealand. The other five hundreds are – 190 at Hamilton in Jan 1999: 103* at Hamilton in Jan 1999: 144 at Mohall in Oct 1999: 222 at Ahmedabad in Oct 2003 and 104 at Ahmedabad in Nov 2010.

R Dravid became the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score six or more hundreds against New Zealand. Javed Miandad of Pakistan has scored seven hundreds. On his way to sixth hundred by scoring 191 in this test, R Dravid went past AR Border of Australia. JK Kallis of South Africa and Shoaib Mohammad of Pakistan who have scored five hundreds against New Zealand.

At the end of India’s first innings, R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have an aggregate of 1659 and 1532 runs respectively against New Zealand. SR Tendulkar became the first Indian batsman to total 1500 runs against New Zealand. He reached the milestone when he was on 29 during his knock of 61 in this test. R Dravid became the second Indian batsman to score 1500 runs against New Zealand when he was on 31 during his knock of 191. R Dravid’s aggregate of 1659 represent not only the most run aggregate by an Indian batsman against New Zealand but also a record aggregate for most runs in India-New Zealand Test series.

R Dravid’s 191 in this test provide the 61^st occasion of a batsman scoring runs between 190 and 199 in the annals of test cricket. His 191 in this test provides the eigth occasion of an Indian batsman performing such a feat. New Zealand were all out for 193 in the first innings providing the 20^th occasion of New Zealand dismissed all out for less than 200 runs in an innings against India. It provides the fifth occasion of New Zealand dismissed for a total of less than 200 runs when it has batted in the first innings of a test match. The other four occasions are – 186 at Wellington in Feb 1968 : 181 at Hyd-LBS in Oct 1969 : 187 at Hamilton in Mar 1994 and 145 at Bangalore in Oct 1995

G Gambhir {78}, V Sehwag {74}, R Dravid {69*} and SR Tendulkar {57*} scored fifties providing the tenth occasion of first four batsman scoring fifties in a test innings. India’s feat is the second such occasion against New Zealand, the first being at Mohali in Oct 1999 – DJ Gandhi {75}, S Ramesh {73}, R Dravid {144} and SR Tendulkar {126*}. Note : SC Ganguly also scored 64 not out in this innings making it first five batsmen scoring fifties.

G Gambhir {78}, V Sehwag {74}, R Dravid {69*} and SR Tendulkar {57*} scored fifties providing the 153^rd, 154^th, 155^th and 156^th occasion of Indian batsman scoring fifties against New Zealand.

R Dravid’s 69 not out represent his 90^th fifty {30 hundreds and 60 half centuries}. He became the fifth batsman to score 90 plus fifties. The other four are – SR Tendulkar – 108 {49 C plus 59 HC} : RT Ponting – 94 {39 C plus 55 HC} : JH Kallis – 91 {37 C plus 54 HC} and AR Border – 90 {27 C plus 63 HC}.

G Gambhir and V Sehwag added 113 runs for the first wicket in this test to provide the 54^th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership against New Zealand. This stand provides the eleventh occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the first wicket against New Zealand.

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar added 100 runs for the first wicket in an unfinished stand for the third wicket in this test to provide the 55th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership against New Zealand. This stand provides the tenth occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the third wicket against New Zealand.

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar with their 100 runs unfinished third wicket partnership in this test now own the record for most fifty plus runs partnerships in the annals of test cricket. For SR Tendulkar this partnership is the 34^th three figure partnership for the third wicket. R Dravid and RT Ponting has 34 and 39 three figure partnerships to their credit for the second wicket. These are the only three batsmen in the annals of test cricket to have 34 plus three figure partnerships for any wicket.

For R Dravid this partnership provides the 25^th partnership for the third wicket.

Nagpur Test – First day

New Zealand capped AJ McKay for this test. He became the 248^th cricketer to represent New Zealand in tests. He became the 22^nd New Zealand cricketer to make test debut against India.

New Zealand won the toss in this test and batted first providing the 19^th occasion of New Zealand winning the toss and batting first against India in India-New Zealand test series.

JD Ryder’s 59 in this test is his sixth test half century and ninth fifty. It also represents the 132^nd occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a fifty and 95^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a half century against India.

Harbhajan Singh captured his 375^th test wicket when he claimed the wicket of JD Ryder caught by SK Raina for 59. He became the 14^th bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 375 plus wickets. He became the third Indian bowler to capture 375 plus test wickets after A Kumble {619} and N Kapil Dev {434}

At the end of the first day of the test, Harbhjan Singh has conceded 12001 runs. He became the third Indian bowler to concede 12000 plus runs. The other two are – A Kumble {18355} and N Kapil Dev {12867}.

KS Williamson’s zero in this test provides the 84^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a duck against India. His duck represent the 48^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a duck against India on away soil – that is on Indian soil.

New Zealand lost five wickets for 51 runs providing the sixth occasion of New Zealand losing five wickets under 52 runs. The six occasions are – 5 for 33 at Kanpur in Oct 1999, 5 for 37 at Mumbai {BS} in Mar 1965, 5 for 47 at Kolkata in Dec 1955, 5 for 49 at Mumbai {BS} in Sep 1969, 5 for 50 vs Mumbai in Nov 1976 and 5 for 51 at Nagpur in Nov 2010.

Pakistan vs South Africa – First test at Dubai ; Test Drawn

Dubai International Stadium became the 101^st ground to host a test match. It became the second ground after Sharjah to host a test match in United Arab Emirates.

Misbah-ul-Haq led Pakistan in this test. He became the 29th captain to lead Pakistan in tests.

Pakistan capped Adnan Akmal for this test. He became the 200^th cricketer to represent Pakistan in tests. He became the ninth Pakistan cricketer to make his test debut against South Africa.

Adnan Akmal became the 18^th wicket keeper batsman to represent Pakistan in tests. He became the first Pakistan wicket keeper to make his debut against South Africa in tests

Adnan Akmal became the 16^th cricketer to make his debut in a test played at a neutral venue. He is the fourth Pakistan cricketer to make his debut at a neutral venue. Three or more brothers playing for a country is a rarity in test cricket. Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Adnan Akmal joined the elite list of three or more brothers playing tests for a country. GC Smith scored 100 in this test which gave him the record of most hundreds by a captain. This knock was his 20^th hundred and he wrested the record from RT Ponting of Australia who has scored 19 hundreds

GC Smith’s 100 in this test represents his 22^nd hundred as opening batsman and he is on par with G Boycott who has scored 22 hundreds as an opening batsman for England. Only SM Gavaskar of India {33} and ML Hayden {30} have scored more hundreds than GC Smith and G Boycott as opening batsmen.

GC Smith’s 100 in this test gave his 50^th fifty – {22C plus 28HC}. He became the 40^th batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 fifties. He became the third South African batsman to score 50 fifties. Others are – JH Kallis {89} and G Kirsten {59}.

AN Petersen with his 67 in this test scored his second half century and third fifty. HM Amla’s 80 represent his 17^th test half century and 27^th fifty. JH Kallis’ 73 represent his 54^th half century and 89^th fifty.

GC Smith {100}, AN Petersen {67}, HM Amla {80} and JH Kallis {73} scored fifties in South Africa’s innings providing the 60^th occasion of first four batsmen scoring fifties in a test innings. It also provides the seventh occasion of South African batsmen performing such a feat in a test innings.

GC Smith and AN Petersen added 153 runs for the first wicket providing the 16^th occasion of South African batsmen posting a three wicket partnership against Pakistan. This stand provides the fourth occasion of South African batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the first wicket against Pakistan

HM Amla and JH Kallis added 117 runs for the third wicket providing the 17th occasion of South African batsmen posting a three wicket partnership against Pakistan. This stand provides the fourth occasion of South African batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the third wicket against Pakistan

Mohammad Hafeez and Tafiq Umar added 105 runs for the first wicket providing the 13^th occasion of Pakistan batsmen posting a three figure partnership against South Africa. It also represents the fifth occasion of such a partnership for the first wicket.

M Morkel captured 5 for 54 in the first innings providing the 225^th occasion of a South African bowler capturing five or more wickets against various oppositions. It also represents the 13^th occasion of a South African bowler capturing five or more wickets against Pakistan.

HM Amla and JH Kallis added 242 runs in an unfinished stand for the third wicket providing the 18th occasion of South African batsmen posting a three wicket partnership against Pakistan. This stand provides the fifth occasion of South African batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the third wicket against Pakistan

Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq added 186 runs in an unfinished stand for the fourth wicket providing the 14^th occasion of Pakistan batsmen posting a three figure partnership against South Africa. It also represents the first occasion of such a partnership for the first wicket and as such the record stand for the fourth wicket. The previous best was the 93 run stand between Asif Mujtaba and Inzamam-ul-Haq at Johannesburg in Jan 1955.

Umar Gul {3 for 100} and Abdur Rehman {3 for 101} conceded 100 plus runs in the first innings of this test to provide the 20^th and 21^st occasion of Pakistan bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against South Africa

Abdur Rehman {1 for 105} and Saeed Ajmal {1 for 102} conceded 100 plus runs in the second innings of this test to provide the 21^st and 22^nd occasion of Pakistan bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against South Africa

Abdur Rehman has conceded 100 plus runs on five occasions in a test innings which include the two occasions in this test. He became the only Pakistan bowler
to concede 100 plus runs on five occasions against South Africa. Danish Kaneria and Saqlain Mushtaq has conceded 100 plus runs against South Africa on five occasions.

Abdur Rehman conceded 100 plus runs in both innings of this test – 3 for 101 and 1 for 105. This is the second occasion that he has conceded 100 plus runs in both innings of a test against South Africa. The other occasion was at Karachi in Oct 2007 when he had returned with figures of 4 for 105 and 4 for 105 in the first and second innings respectively.

Abdur Rehman remains the only Pakistan bowler to concede 100 plus runs in both innings of the test against South Africa on two occasions.

MV Boucher extended his total dismissals to 507 {483 catches and 22 stumpings} with his three dismissals in this test. His aggregate of dismissals against Pakistan at the end of this test stands at 55 {48 catches and 07 stumpings}

Mohammad Hafeez scored 60 in the first innings of this test which represents his fourth test half century and sixth fifty.

Azar Ali scored twin fifties in this test – 56 and 63 – which represents his third and fourth fifty of his test career.

Azhar Ali became the sixth Pakistan batsman to score fifties in both innings of a test match against South Africa.

Younis Khan scored 131 not out in the second innings of this test which represents his 17^th test century and 38^th fifty.

Younis Khan’s 131 not out represent the eleventh hundred scored by a Pakistan batsman against South Africa. It also represents his third hundred against South Africa. The other two hundreds are – 126 at Karachi in Oct 2007 and 130 at Lahore in Oct 2007. Thus his 131 not out represents his highest score against South Africa.

Younis Khan became the second Pakistan batsman to score three hundreds against South Arica, the first being Azhar Mahmood {128* at Rawalpindi in Oct 97, 136 at Jo’burg in Feb 98 and 132 at Durban in Feb 98}

J Botha conceded 138 runs {1 for 138} in South Africa’s second innings providing the fifth occasion of a South African bowler conceding 100 plus runs against Pakistan. He now holds the record for most expensive bowling figures in terms of runs conceded by a South African bowler against Pakistan. The previous record was held by PL Symcox who had figures of 2 for 130 at Rawalpindi in Oct 1997

HM Amla {118 not out} and JH Kallis {135 not out} scored hundreds in South Africa’s second innings providing the 14^th and 15^th occasion of a South African batsman scoring a hundred against Pakistan.

Misbah-ul-Haq scored 73 not out on his captaincy debut {in Paksitan’s second innings} providing the sixth occasion of a Pakistan captain scoring a fifty in his first captaincy appearance.
