West Indians were at the receiving end for the second time in this category of statistics. The first such occasion was also at Melbourne in Dec 1968. WM Lawry and IM Chappell posted 298 runs for the second wicket in this test.  Australia had lost its opener IR Redpath for 7 runs when the score card read 14. WM Lawry and IM Chappell added 298 runs for the second wicket and the score at the fall of second wicket read 312. WM Lawry scored 205 and IM Chappell scored 165. IM Chappell was the batsman dismissed at the fall of the second wicket for 165 before he was bowled by GS Sobers.

It is interesting to note that WM Lawry has been a part on both the occasions. In 1968 as a batsman and 47 years later –  in 2015 as a commentator

AD Mathews of Sri Lanka was dismissed first ball in the first one-day game against Sri Lanka at Christcurch on 26.12.15. This was his third occasion of collecting the first ball duck in one day games. The other two occasions were – against New Zealand at Dambulla on 16.11.13 and at Nelson on 20.01.15. He joined the list of captains who have collected first ball ducks on three or more occasions to become the 14th captain in the annals of one day games.  The performance of all these 14 captains are listed below

KS Williamson of New Zealand scored 108 not out in the just concluded test against Sri Lanka at Hamilton. This century represents his fifth century in the calendar year 2015. SPD Smith of  Australia became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to score five or more hundreds in a calendar year on two or more occasions. The batsmen who have accomplished this rare feat are – ML Hayden {on three occasions in 2001, 2002 and 2003} and RT Ponting {on two occasions in 2005 and 2006 and SPD Smith {on two occasions in 2014 and 2015}  It is  interesting to note that all the three batsmen are Australians. CH Gayle earned a unique record in the history of Twenty20 games. He needs two more boundary sixes to have an aggregate of 600 boundary sixes prior the start of the game between Brisbane Heats and Melbourne Renegades which was slated for today in the Big Bash League in Australia. He has scored 598 boundary sixes prior to the start of the game. He scored two boundary sixes in his knock of 23 in today’s game and became the first batsman ever in the history of T20 games to score 600 boundary sixes.
