BB McCullum emulates AC Gilchrist to become the second batsman to score one hundred boundary sixes in the annals of test cricket

BB McCullum became the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score one hundred boundary sixes in tests after AC Gilchrist. AC Gilchrist was the first batsman to score one hundred boundary sixes in the annals of test cricket.

BB McCullum achieved this coveted distinction in the just concluded Dunedin test against Sri Lanka. This is how espncricinfo.com describes the 100th boundary six scored by BB McCullum in New Zealand’s second innings during his knock of 17 not out in which he scored two boundary sixes. His second boundary six was his one  hundredth boundary six.

65.4 – Herath to McCullum, SIX, Drum rolls, please! 100th six in Tests for Baz, he draws level with Gilchrist as the highest six-hitter. Baz jumps outside leg, and walloped it over midwicket. Herath dropped it shorter and Baz sent it clattering over Siriwardana in the deep. And with that NZ declare

The following table lists the career summary of BB McCullum with breakup of boundary sixes against each opposition

Bowlers capturing thirty plus wickets conceding less than 350 runs in a test series

R Ashwin captured 31 wickets conceding 345 runs in the just concluded home series against South Africa to become the only spinner and the third bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 30 plus wickets conceding less than 350 runs. Quite interestingly all the three bowlers have chosen to perform the feat  against South Africa.

GA Lohmann of England was the first bowler to capture 30 plus wickets conceding less than 350 runs. He captured 35 wickets conceding 203 runs against South Africa in 1895-96. SF Barnes of England emulated GA Lohmann by capturing 34 wickets conceding 282 runs in 1912 test series.  Both GA Lehmann and SF Barnes performed the feat in three test series which is incredible. R Ashwin’s 31 wickets came in four tests. The performance of these three bowlers are furnished below

New Zealand batsmen who have scored twin fifties in a test match on five occasions – KS Williamson joins the list

KS Williamson scored 88 and 71 in the ongoing test against Sri Lanka at Dunedin to provide the fifth occasion of his scoring twin fifties in a test. He became the third New Zealand batsman to achieve such a feat after SP Fleming and LRPL Taylor

It is noted with interest that all the three batsmen have scored at least one century and a half century in their five twin fifties. SP Fleming and KS Williamson has two such performances while LRPL Taylor has one such performance.

SP Fleming and KS Williamson have scored a double century and a half century in their five twin fifties, while LRPL Taylor has rare twin half centuries – an identical score of 76 in both innings of a test – against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in Nov 2011

SP Fleming scored 274 not out and 69 not out against Sri Lanka at Col-PSS in Apr 2003,  while KS Williamson emulated SP Fleming by scoring 69 and 242 not out at Wellington in Jan 2015 against the same opposition – that is Sri Lanka
