Captains who have collected the first ball ducks in one day games on three or more occasions – AD Mathews’ dubious distinction

AD Mathews of Sri Lanka was dismissed first ball in the first one-day game against Sri Lanka at Christcurch on 26.12.15. This was his third occasion of collecting the first ball duck in one day games. The other two occasions were – against New Zealand at Dambulla on 16.11.13 and at Nelson on 20.01.15. He joined the list of captains who have collected first ball ducks on three or more occasions to become the 14th captain in the annals of one day games.  The performance of all these 14 captains are listed below

He needs two more boundary sixes to have an aggregate of 600 boundary sixes prior the start of the game between Brisbane Heats and Melbourne Renegades which was slated for today in the Big Bash League in Australia. He has scored 598 boundary sixes prior to the start of the game. He scored two boundary sixes in his knock of 23 in today’s game and became the first batsman ever in the history of T20 games to score 600 boundary sixes.

BB McCullum became the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score one hundred boundary sixes in tests after AC Gilchrist. AC Gilchrist was the first batsman to score one hundred boundary sixes in the annals of test cricket.

BB McCullum achieved this coveted distinction in the just concluded Dunedin test against Sri Lanka. R Ashwin captured 31 wickets conceding 345 runs in the just concluded home series against South Africa to become the only spinner and the third bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 30 plus wickets conceding less than 350 runs. Quite interestingly all the three bowlers have chosen to perform the feat  against South Africa.

GA Lohmann of England was the first bowler to capture 30 plus wickets conceding less than 350 runs. He captured 35 wickets conceding 203 runs against South Africa in 1895-96. SF Barnes of England emulated GA Lohmann by capturing 34 wickets conceding 282 runs in 1912 test series.  Both GA Lehmann and SF Barnes performed the feat in three test series which is incredible.
